January 28, 2017 Department of Army Core of Engineers, Department of Justice Dear Mr. Gib Owen, Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Environmental Impact Statement in Connection With Dakota Access, LLC's Request for an Easement To Cross Lake Oahe, North Dakota. As you know, we Americans who are environmentally sensitive, and sensitive to Native American interests, care deeply about this issue. The pipeline, as it is proposed, is an insult to Native Americans and a scarring of sacred land and waterways, and will be forever a worry and concern to the people of this region if the pipeline is built as proposed to cross Lake Oahe in North Dakota. I know many in the Army Core of Engineers are sensitive to environmental concerns, so this will not be falling on deaf ears. I was pleased to attend your hearings in Calabasas California as you listened to concerns that lead to the preservation of Ahmanson Ranch. Please create a real viable alternative that bypasses this sacred land and lake. It may cost more money, yet I think we are entering a time when cost is not the most important concern. It is more important that we, as a people, come together and support environmental responsibility. A more expensive route around this sensitive area will put more Americans back to work. We need a win/win situation here. Especially as we enter a new era of a Trump administration. I voted for President Trump, and it is up to us to educate him on the environment, and why it is important to protect our land, water, and our relations with tribal people. Please create a viable alternative. It may be a more expensive alternative, yet PLEASE SPEND RESOURCES IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT TO MAKE IT AN ALTERNATIVE YOU CAN APPROVE, AND DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE LLC CAN BUILD. I know some will never be happy, but most of us can be happy if you bypass this sacred land and show you care. Thank You for this Opportunity to Comment, Peace and Blessings, Mary Altmann msmarytalt@aol.com cc. President Trump
